An agreement has been reached with Forbes to organise a series of major business events later this year and early next year.
InvestHK Director-General of Investment Promotion Mike Rowse said tonight the three main events in the pipeline are the Best Under a Billion Forbes Global 200 Best Small Companies, Forbes US 2003 CEO Forum and Forbes Global CEO Conference.
The Best Under a Billion event is set to be held in Hong Kong in November. It is an award presentation for 200 best small companies with a turnover under US$1 billion.
Mr Rowse said over 100 CEO or senior business representatives from all over the world are expected to attend.
For the CEO Forum, the Government will sponsor the event, which will be held in Richmond, Virginia in the US this autumn.
For the CEO Conference, Mr Rowse said the event will be held in Hong Kong in spring 2004.
In addition, Hong Kong will co-operate with Forbes to organise a series of business receptions and activities.
Speaking on other promotional activities to restore Hong Kong's reputation and revive the economy following the SARS outbreak, Mr Rowse said $200 million has been set aside for organising mega sports and entertainment events.
Apart from inviting Livepool to participate in an exhibition soccer match this summer, the Government is now working on getting two other leading European football teams to play in a competitive match.
Moreover, the Chinese National Basketball Team, including NBA star Yao Ming, will play in Hong Kong sometime this year.
On the entertainment side, a major event will be staged at Hong Kong Stadium later this year.
While large-scale publicity will be launched internationally and locally to help get economic activity back to normal, the public will also be encouraged to partake in cultural and community programmes.
Outlining details of the activities to relaunch Hong Kong, Mr Rowse said it is important to get our economy growing again by promoting local consumption and boosting tourism.
It is also crucial to convince the international communities, including the Mainland, that they should come to Hong Kong for business and leisure.
