A design-and-construction consultancy agreement worth $100.8 million for the in situ reprovisioning of the South Works section of Sha Tin Water Treatment Works facility was awarded today.
It will be the largest treatment works in Hong Kong, supplying water to a major part of the metropolitan area and Sha Tin.
The South Works was commissioned in 1964 and is now approaching the end of its serviceable life.
Tentatively scheduled to begin in mid-2012, the agreement covers consultancy service for the reprovisioning of the South Works with a state-of-the-art treatment process with a proposed capacity of 550,000 cubic metres per day.
The works will also cover the reprovisioning of a fresh water pumping station, the administration building, the laboratory and other associated water treatment facilities. The Water Supplies Department expects the project to create 1,860 construction jobs.
