Tours planned for heritage trail

*
Tai Tam Upper Reservoir Masonry Aqueduct
Back track: Tai Tam Upper Reservoir Masonry Aqueduct is one of the highlights of the Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail.
*

Guided tours of the Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail will be held every Saturday morning October 10 to December 19, at 10.30am and 11.30am.

The three-hour 5km tour starts at Tai Tam Reservoir Road near Parkview and finishes at Tai Tam Tuk Raw Water Pumping Station. Usually not accessible to the public, the pumping station and its chimney shaft will be open to tour participants.

The trail features 21 historic waterworks structures which have been declared monuments. The tour will promote people's appreciation of monuments and the history of Hong Kong's water supply.

The pumping station was constructed in 1907. The oldest structures on the trail are the Tai Tam Upper Reservoir Masonry Bridge, masonry aqueduct, dam, valve house and tunnel inlet built from 1883 to 1888. Most of these are intact and still in operation.

The tours are free and people aged 12 to 18 can register to take part through schools or non-profit making organisations. Application forms are available here. For enquiries call 2805 7146 or 6222 0229.
