The Transport Department reminds students to attend schools early on September 1, the first school day, as traffic is expected to be busier than normal.
Students should familiarise themselves with the public transport routes to be taken to school and allow more travelling time on the first day, especially if they are attending a new school this term.
Those living on the outlying islands or attending schools on the outlying islands should check the ferry schedules beforehand.
The department's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will closely monitor the traffic situation and public transport services.
Department staff will be deployed throughout the city to observe the situation and provide on-site information. Major public transport operators have been reminded to provide adequate services to meet an upsurge in transport demand.
Motorists are urged not to drive to the school areas if possible. Nanny van and school bus drivers should avoid carrying excess passengers and leaving school children in vehicles unattended.
Parents should agree well in advance with nanny van or school bus drivers their children's pick-up and drop-off location. No picking up and dropping off will be allowed in restricted zones.
People should pay attention to the latest transport and traffic news broadcast by radio and TV stations before leaving home. For enquiries, call 2804 2600.
