Tai O slope repairs progressing well

Carrie Lam inspects Tai O slope repair works
Situation report: Geotechnical Engineering Office Head Raymond Chan updates Secretary for Development Carrie Lam on the progress of slope repair works in Tai O.
*

Urgent repairs to damaged natural slopes in Tai O are progressing well, with most works set for completion by month's end, Secretary for Development Carrie Lam learned during her Tai O inspection today.

The Geotechnical Engineering Office has sent more than 100 workers to conduct the repairs in Tai O San Tsuen and Nam Chung Tsuen. They have been working 12 hours a day, seven days a week to finish the works as quickly as possible.

Repairs to landslides affecting other Tai O villages are also in good progress and the residual landslide risk has been effectively reduced.

Mrs Lam visited a Tai O San Tsuen family evacuated from their village house because of the landslide threat. They returned home on July 11 after slope repairs were completed.

The Buildings Department has so far lifted closure orders for 20 of 30 village houses upon completion of remedial works. It is expected the closure orders for the remaining five village houses in Nam Chung Tsuen can be lifted on Friday.
