Bus fare rises studied

*
Transport Advisory Committee

The Transport Advisory Committee has discussed applications for bus fare rises and will table its recommendations to the Government soon.

Chairman Teresa Cheng said recommendations will be made according to each operator's individual situation to ensure service quality and encourage them upgrade services.

The committee today discussed applications from Kowloon Motor Bus, Long Win Bus, New Lantao Bus, Citybus and New World First Bus. In deliberating it considered and balanced various factors in the bus fare adjustment arrangement approved by the Chief Executive-in-Council in 2006, including inflation, service quality and the forecast financial performance of the companies.

Ms Cheng said: "The committee notes the financial situations and forecast performances of different bus companies are not the same. Taking into account all factors we will make recommendations based on individual operators' own conditions to enable them to sustain the provision of quality services and encourage them to further improve services."
