Pre-arrival rules for Mainland vessels relaxed

*
Immigration Department

From February 24, applications for pre-arrival clearance will be extended to all Mainland river and coastal trade vessels, irrespective of tonnage.

The relaxation of the pre-arrival clearance scheme to these vessels will further consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international and regional transportation and logistics hub.

Approved vessels can proceed directly to their berth or terminal for cargo operations without waiting for immigration clearance at anchorages, thus lowering operational costs.

It is estimated that about 2,000 vessels will benefit from the scheme, which will help promote economic co-operation between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region.

The scheme was launched last May to cover vessels of 700 tonnes or more. It was further extended to cover vessels of 300 tonnes or more in September.

Vessel operators can submit their applications to the Harbour Control Section of the Immigration Department at 2/F, Central Government Pier, 32 Man Fai Street, Central.

For enquiries, call the Department 's information office on 2824 6111 or the Harbour Control Section on 2534 7119 (office hours) or 2543 1958 (outside office hours).
