Homeward bound: Jason Leung and his mother return to Hong Kong on a chartered medical flight. |
|
Wounded Manila hijack victim Jason Leung is undergoing an operation tonight at Tuen Mun Hospital to lower pressure in his skull, Acting Secretary for Food & Health Professor Gabriel Leung says.
The patient, who had an initial operation in Manila, was sent to the local hospital immediately after he and his mother returned from Manila earlier this evening on a chartered medical flight.
Prof Leung said Mr Leung's vital signs have been stable. Tonight's operation will remove part of his fore-skull to release the intracranial pressure.
Mr Leung will be observed for up to seven days after the operation before the medical team decide on the next step of treatment.
The operation was led by the Hospital's Chief of Service (Neurosurgery) Dr Dawson Fong, who flew to Manila to support the family.
Prof Leung, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung and Hospital Authority Chairman Anthony Wu met the family at Chek Lap Kok Airport earlier this evening.
