New performing arts venues to be tried

*

The Home Affairs Bureau will launch a six-month trial scheme in July designating three locations as places for public performances by people or organisations.

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing told lawmakers today the bureau wants to bring the arts to the public and encourage participation in cultural activities.

Zones in the Cultural Centre piazza, Sha Tin Town Hall plaza and Kwai Tsing Theatre plaza, which have a high pedestrian flow and an enabling setting, will be designated as places for public performances.

The registration system will operate on a first come, first served basis. Performers cannot seek or collect donations at the designated places but can display their original products, such as albums, for sale. To ensure artistic standards, auditions will be held.

"We hope the trial scheme will provide more room for arts enthusiasts to showcase their creativity and talent, enhancing public access to the arts and further enriching our city's characteristics," Mr Tsang said.
