Columbarium working group established
*

The Food & Health Bureau has formed a working group to study increasing the supply of columbarium facilities and enhancing consumer protection.

The group will consider introducing a listing system to inform the public whether a columbarium complies with regulations. The measures will be announced within this quarter.

The Government will work to increase the supply of public columbarium niches. It will plan the development of columbarium facilities more effectively and identify suitable locations for developing these facilities.

It will augment the supply of niches by increasing the number of storeys of columbarium blocks and the number of tiers of niches. It will improve the outlook and layout of future columbaria by providing landscaping facilities.

Noting support from the Legislative and District Councils, and local communities is essential to columbarium construction, the bureau called for collective responsibility and to allow such facilities to be developed in each district.
