Shek Lei declared estate structurally safe
*
Housing Department

Shek Lei (2) Estate blocks 10 and 11, designated by the Housing Department for use as an interim housing and transit centre, are structurally safe, with the major part of their repair works completed.

The department said today an investigation two years ago to ascertain the condition of the 40-year-old buildings found they were structurally safe but needed repair.

The works, begun early last year, included repairs to the ceilings of balconies and toilets, the application of a waterproof layer and the re-tiling of internal walls of toilets, and repairing concrete defects in general.

The Total Maintenance Scheme was launched in the estate in mid-2009 to improve the blocks' living environment. Under it, ambassadors conducted household visits to find potential defects and repair them.
