Social enterprise advisory committee formed
*

The Social Enterprise Advisory Committee was established today to advise the Government on formulating policies and strategies to aid the development of local social enterprises.

It will also advise on and monitor programmes and activities promoting their development, foster better understanding and encourage closer co-operation among relevant stakeholders, and undertake research studies.

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing will chair the committee. Its members will include the Advisory Committee on Enhancing Self-Reliance Through District Partnership Programme chairman, social enterprise practitioners, and representatives from the business and academic sectors.

Prof Stephen Cheung has been appointed an ex-officio member. Other non-official members are Dr Tse Ka-kui, Alice Chong, Dr Jane Lee, Howard Ling, Kee Chi-hing, Siu Chor-kee, Christina Maisenne Lee, Dr Chan Tsang-fai, Stephen Lee, Candy Tam, Melissa Kaye Pang and Dr Kevin Au.

Their appointment will take effect from tomorrow for two years.

Mr Tsang said he hopes the committee's establishment will further combine the efforts of the Government and the community to better respond to society's needs.
