70 ill in suspected food poisoning case

*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a suspected food poisoning case involving 70 secondary students in an Aberdeen school.

Thirty-six boys and 34 girls, aged from 11 to 18, came down with gastroenteritis symptoms, about 10 minutes to 31 hours after having lunch at school on December 2.

Two of them sought medical treatment from private hospitals and did not require hospitalisation. Most of the students have recovered and the rest are in stable condition.

People should observe good personal, food and environmental hygiene to prevent food-borne diseases. Click here for prevention tips.
