Health alert issued on beauty product
*
Department of Health

The Department of Health warns consumers not to use beauty product Huama ABC after a 41-year-old woman suffered mercury poisoning after taking it.

She saw a private doctor in September and was found to have a high level of mercury in her blood and was referred to Tuen Mun Hospital. She said she used the product for about one month this summer.

Huama Day Cream-B and Huama Night Cream were taken for laboratory testing and were found to contain high levels of mercury. The Customs & Excise Department said the products are not on the Hong Kong market.

Mercury poisoning symptoms include tremors, irritability, insomnia, memory deterioration, difficulty concentrating, impaired hearing and vision, and changes in taste. In severe cases renal failure can occur.
