Import of unregistered flu vaccine probed

On alert: Unregistered and registered examples of flu vaccine Vaxigrip.
*

The Department of Health is investigating the sale of an unregistered influenza vaccine at private clinics.

About 2,700 doses of Vaxigrip, a French flu vaccine, have been imported illegally from the Mainland. Most was supplied to the Raffles Medical Centre's clinics in Central, Tsim Sha Tsui and the airport, and the Blue Care's clinic in Central on November 10.

About 200 doses went to other clinics, including Healthcare Medical Centre in Po Tin Shopping Centre, Tuen Mun.

Hotline launched

Assistant Director of Health Dr Cindy Lai called on people who recently had a flu shot from the clinics to call 2575 1221.

More than 1,100 doses of unregistered Vaxigrip have been seized from the clinics. It is believed about 1,600 doses had been administered.

The department will check for reports of adverse effects relating to the injection of unregistered flu vaccines.

To report suspected supply of unregistered pharmaceutical products call 2572 2068.
