The Government will continue to liaise with the lifeguards' union to avoid the strike scheduled for Monday, Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Anissa Wong says.
Speaking on a radio talk show today, Ms Wong said it is still uncertain as to what extent the industrical action will affect the department's lifeguard service.
She said the department is now liaising with different life- saving associations, and asking them to send voluntary lifeguards to perform duty at swimming pools and beaches on Monday. So far, about 200 volunteers have signed up.
She said the department will inform the public through TV and radio announcements about the opening of the aquatic facilities as early as possible Monday morning.
Call 1823 to see what pools are open
Members of the public can also use the government hotline, 1823, or visit the department's homepage to check pool opening details.
Ms Wong stressed the department has been contracting out its services for more than 10 years, adding the outsourcing plan for Tai Kok Tsui Sports Centre & Swimming Pool will not affect the employment of incumbent lifeguards.
She urged the union to hold talks with the department to resolve their differences.
