Health funding options ready by year end

*

The proposed medical service delivery model can ensure Hong Kong's limited resources are being used in the best way, Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Ingrid Yeung says, adding healthcare financing plans will be rolled out for discussion by the end of this year.

Speaking on a radio talkshow today, Mrs Yeung said the medical service delivery model the Health & Medical Development Advisory Committee proposed aims to promote the family doctors concept as a core element of the primary medical care service.

She believed the concept will help ensure better use of resources and save individual medical expenses. If the existing service model continues, the middle class will suffer most as they have to pay more tax for the increasing healthcare spending.

The Government will have an idea on the resources needed for introducing the revamped medical service delivery model after the consultation and will put forth healthcare financing plans for discussion by the end of this year or earlier next year, she added.

Mrs Yeung said to tie in with the reform, appropriate measures will be taken to change people's mindset and promote proper use of public and private medical services.
