After years of development, the Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre at Penny's Bay has been completed and will open August 16.
At 30 hectares it is one of the major Penny's Bay developments undertaken by the Civil Engineering & Development Department, with more than 4,800 trees and 430,000 shrubs, an artificial lake, a jogging trail, a playground, a waterfall, and a service centre.

Tranquil setting
The 12-hectare Inspiration Lake is the focus of the development, taking in water from the surrounding hills. Featuring a water cascade, water jets, and aquatic plants, the lake is up to five metres deep. It not only provides public recreation but will also be the source of irrigation water for Penny's Bay, including Hong Kong Disneyland.
The service centre, south of the lake, provides boat rental, toilets, changing rooms and food and drinks. Next to it is the playground, which has safety matting and a dry fountain illuminated by 16 in-ground lights with 12 water jet patterns displayed randomly.
A 1,500 metre jogging trail with fitness stations encircles the lake, and accesses gazebos, the waterfall bridge and scenic lookouts.
More features
The waterfall in the northeast corner of the lake consists of seven ponds, and is illuminated by underwater lights.
The water jets in Inspiration Lake shoot up to 18 metres high and are also illuminated by underwater lights.
For budding botanists, a four-hectare arboretum features a wide range of local and exotic plants and trees.
The lake area is open 9am to 7pm, with a shuttle bus from the Lantau Link Toll Gate.
