The Department of Health today urged people not to take a proprietary Chinese medicine called Ng Chung Brand Tik Dak Win as the product's lead content exceeds the maximum permitted limit.
Macau has also recalled the drug for high levels of lead. Lead toxicity leads to anaemia, kidney failure, damage to the central nervous system or even death.
The department had instructed the manufacturer of the product, Lung Choy Shun Ng Chung Brand Medicine Factory, to recall the products from the market immediately and to surrender them to the department.
People who have purchased the product are advised to stop using it, dispose of the product or surrender it to the Pharmaceutical Service of Department of Health at 3/F Public Health Laboratory Centre, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon during office hours.
The manufacturer's hotline, 2431 4780, has been set up for the recall of the product. People can also call the department's hotline, 2319 5119, during office hours.
