5 ill after eating Shenzhen sandwiches
*
HPC logo (Eng version)

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating food poisoning reports involving five Hong Kong people who fell ill after eating sandwiches in Shenzhen on August 29 and 30.

The four males and one female are aged nine to 39, and four are in a stable condition at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole and Tuen Mun Hospitals. Their symptoms, fever, diarrhoea and vomiting, indicate bacterial food poisoning.

It is believed the case is related to a food poisoning outbreak involving sandwiches produced by a Shenzhen food company. The centre has contacted Guangdong health officials for more information.

The centre urges people to be vigilant against food-borne infections, especially when travelling outside Hong Kong. Anyone recently falling sick in Shenzhen after eating sandwiches should seek medical attention.
