Excessive e-coli bacteria has been found in the tanks of seven wholesale seafood stalls on the Aberdeen promenade.

They were among the samples taken from 17 stalls in the area by Food & Environmental Hygiene officers on November 6.

The e-coli count should not exceed 610 per 100ml of water for keeping live fish or shellfish intended for human consumption. However, the seven samples contained levels ranging from 620 to 4,800.

The department is now taking action against the stalls - Fuk Chai Seafood, Sing Kee Seafood, Hoi Chun Seafood, Fo Yau Seafood, Ho Lee Seafood, Ming Fat Seafood and Kam Pui Seafood Wholesale.

It will closely monitor tank water quality and take samples for testing every week.

The Government plans to hand over the land occupied by the wholesale stalls to the Fish Marketing Organisation for management later this year.
