Transport sector to run anti-abuse slogans
*

'Strengthening Families & Combating Violence' will be the main theme of the Social Welfare Department's publicity campaign on family services for 2003-04. Members of the transport sector have been invited to disseminate the message.

The campaign will focus on:

* psychological abuse of children;

* services for men and batterers;

* encouraging abused elderly to seek help; and,

* support for victims of sexual violence.

Publicity materials will include garbage bins, tissue boxes and pocketsize tissue packets bearing relevant hotline numbers and one of the winning entries from last year's slogan competition.

About 5,000 garbage bins and 40,000 tissue boxes have been distributed for display in over 11,000 taxis and 5,000 minibuses.

The materials will also be displayed at some container terminals and in 10,000 trucks. In a later stage of the campaign, 200,000 pocketsize tissue packets will be handed out to taxi users.
