Relaunch HK
Tennis superstars to serve up challenge

Four of the world's top tennis players - Venus Williams, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Roger Federer, and Maria Sharapova - will compete in an eight-player challenge at Victoria Park in January, as part of the ongoing programme of events to relaunch Hong Kong.

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department is presenting the Watsons Water Champions Challenge jointly with the Hong Kong Tennis Patrons' Association Limited, on January 8, 9 & 10.

Three loves: Roger Federer, Venus Williams and Juan Carlos Ferrero will take to the court in Victoria Park in January, along with Russian sensation Maria Sharapova.

Four other stars will also take part in the event, which will feature a men's singles knockout competition, a ladies singles knockout competition and a mixed doubles knockout competition.

Ferrero, from Villena in Spain, is the world No. 1 player and current French Open champion. Federer, from Switzerland, is Wimbledon champion and world No. 3.

Venus Williams, probably the world's most famous female athlete, is four-time Grand Slam champion. She will be joined by the up-and-comer Sharapova, of Russia. Just 16 years old, she competed in the HK Ladies Challenge early this year, then went on to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The remaining two men and two women players will be announced in due course, along with the date for the start of ticket sales. For more information, call the tournament hotline on 2311 4000.
