Led by professional technical staff, 50 special teams of the Housing Department will inspect all metal entrance gates in 132 public housing estates within two days.
To enhance safety, the department would replace all door locks with more powerful and secured screws to provide better support to the locks.
The inspection will strengthen actions taken by property management companies and frontline estate management staff following Tuesday's incident at Chuk Yuen (South) Estate.
The Department will also review the design of the entrance doors, including the choice of materials, locks and gate-hinges, as well as installation methods, said the department's Deputy Director Lau Kai-hung.
The designs of metal gates are safe, Mr Lau stressed. The review is intended to address possible problems arising from the usage and maintenance of the gates.
"Safety of the tenants is our prime concern and a number of measures are in hand to ensure public safety in public housing estates," said Mr Lau.
"Following Tuesday's incident, we had instructed a comprehensive check of all metal gates at both department-managed estates and those managed by private companies.
"We understand and share the concerns of our tenants and hope that the extra inspection efforts by our staff would help put tenants' minds at ease," Mr Lau added.
Meanwhile, HD has posted notices reminding tenants of proper use of the metal gates.
The department would also help tenants in their claims with insurance companies relating to the incidents.
