Crocodile Pui Pui has moved into its permanent home in Hong Kong Wetland Park from the Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden.
Pui Pui arrived at the park at about 9.30am this morning. To avoid any unnecessary stress to the reptile, the escort team put the restrained crocodile in a crate during transportation.
Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department Assistant Director (Conservation) Lay Chik-chuen said the six-year-old female croc will be put under observation in an indoor back-up area of its pool.
It will be released into the outside pool when it gets used to the new environment. In the meantime, visitors can watch the croc on closed-circuit television.
Noting the reptile will be kept at the park permanently, Mr Lay said there is no need for the public to rush to the park to visit the croc.
Since the park is closed on Tuesdays, the public will not be allowed into the park today.
The crocodile was captured by the department's conservation officers on June 10, 2004, and was transferred to Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden from the department's animal management centre in Sheung Shui two weeks later.
