Donald Tsang officate opening of Olympic Trail and Olympic Green

Conservation efforts: Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong President Timothy Fok and Chief Executive Donald Tsang officiate the opening of the Olympic Trail and Olympic Green.

The Hong Kong Olympic Trail and Olympic Green at Pak Mong on Lantau Island have opened.

Speaking at the opening ceremony today, Chief Executive Donald Tsang said the naming of these landmarks corresponded with the theme of Green Olympics and helped promote a green lifestyle.

The Government obtained the International Olympic Committee's approval to name a trail from Pak Mong Village to Mui Wo as Hong Kong Olympic Trail and a tree-planting site at a slope near Pak Mong Village as Olympic Green to mark the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Hong Kong's co-hosting of the equestrian events.

The Olympic Trail is about 5.6km with its highest point at 227 metres. It passes through villages whose history dates back more than 200 years.

Structures at Pak Mong Village, such as the entrance arch, village wall, and watch-house, have been declared monuments.
