Car-charging taskforce to be formed

*

The Steering Committee on the Promotion of Electric Vehicles will form a working group to expand the network of charging facilities, particularly in car parks of commercial and residential buildings.

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau said after the steering committee's meeting today: "In anticipation of a growing number of electric vehicles running on Hong Kong streets the working group will provide a platform for Government departments and stakeholders to work together to facilitate the development of charging facilities."

The group will address issues of concern, solicit cross-sectoral support and develop guidelines for installing charging facilities. Members include representatives from power companies, the property development and management sector, car parks and Government.

Mr Yau also said the Government has been liaising with car manufacturers to advance the supply schedule of electric vehicles to Hong Kong. In the case of the Nissan LEAF, Hong Kong will be the first place in Asia outside Japan to feature the model.
