170 celebrities join green ambassador scheme
*

Over 170 community celebrities have joined the Leisure & Cultural Services Department's Green Ambassador Scheme to promote greening and strengthen community involvement in tree-management work.

At the scheme's kick-off ceremony today, Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Betty Fung presented letters of appreciation to the 18 District Councils' representatives.

The department has expanded the green volunteer scheme this year. Apart from recruiting more people to join the scheme, it also invites community celebrities to serve as green ambassadors.

Over 170 community celebrities including District Council members have joined. They will help to visually inspect trees, reporting any irregularities, and identifying greening opportunities.

The Conservancy Association conducted a tree conservation seminar after today's ceremony. The department will organise field trips for the ambassadors to acquire basic knowledge on tree conservation.
