Geopark project to join green campaign
*

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau says the Government plans to incorporate the National Geopark project into its I Love Hong Kong, I Love Green campaign.

Speaking at the 4th International UNESCO Conference on Geoparks 2010 in Langkawi, Malaysia, today he said the core of Hong Kong's geopark project is to promote it to the public.

"In promoting our geopark it is of utmost importance we bring it closer to the people through public engagement, education and facilitation," he said. "The ultimate goal is to promote green living in the city, which is part our efforts to enhance our quality of living."

Mr Yau also had a breakfast meeting with Irish geologist Dr Patrick McKeever to share views on conserving geo-treasures.

He will tonight host a dinner for Chen Xiaoning, Deputy Director of the Department of Geological Environment of the Ministry of Land & Resources.
