The Environmental Protection Department today launched a roving exhibition enhancing public awareness of waste electric and electronic equipment.

Opening the series at Tai Po Mega Mall, Under Secretary for the Environment Dr Kitty Poon said Hong Kong generates 70,000 tonnes of waste electric and electronic equipment a year and the volume is increasing 2% annually.

"Waste electrical and electronic equipment contains hazardous components harmful to the environment and human health if not properly treated or disposed of," she said.

The exhibition is being held in Tai Po until Sunday. It moves to Olympian City 1 April 14 to 18, Ma On Shan Plaza April 23 to 24 and Times Square April 26 to 30.

The Government has issued a consultation document to solicit public views on introducing a mandatory producer responsibility scheme for the proper management of waste electric and electronic equipment. It will end April 30. Click here for details.
