Harbour visibility monitor launched
*
HK Observatory logo

Hong Kong Observatory has installed a device at Sai Wan Ho to monitor the visibility of eastern Victoria Harbour.

The equipment will work with the visibility meter in Central set up in 2006, to better monitor visibility across the harbour.

Observatory Assistant Director WM Leung said it will spot changes in visibility and enhance marine safety.

"People can also access the Observatory's website to obtain more weather information to help plan outdoor activities," he said.

Marine Department Senior Marine Officer CT Lai said the visibility data is vital for the safe navigation of harbour traffic.

The Observatory also has visibility meters at Chek Lap Kok and Waglan Island. The real-time data is available here.
