Promenade set for Wan Chai waterfront

*
Sarah Liao visits Wan Chai

Promising project: Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao gets the lowdown on the temporary promenade project on the Wan Chai waterfront.

*

A temporary promenade will be built in Wan Chai enabling people to enjoy the harbour front.

Visiting Wan Chai today, Secretary for the Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao made her first stop at the former cargo-handling site on Hung Hing Road, where she was briefed on the promenade project. The area between Wan Chai Ferry Pier and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club will be turned into a pedestrian link and amenity areas.

Dr Liao then went to a site at the junction of Leighton and Caroline Hill Roads, which will be redeveloped into a public transport terminus. A stone wall and several mature trees on Leighton Road will be preserved.

While strolling through the shopping area on Pak Sha, Lee Garden and Kai Chiu Roads, Dr Liao chatted with proprietors and noted their views on the pedestrianisation trial scheme for the area.

She then received an update on the proposed Hennessy Road underground pedestrian-and-retail link and the MTR Causeway Bay Station improvement scheme.

Before ending her visit, Dr Liao went to Lockhart Road to see the proposed plan to beautify the Lockhart Road-East Point Road pedestrian precinct using a barrier-free design.
