Meteorologists from 10 countries have attended a training course on aviation meteorological services held by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The course, the sixth organised for the World Meteorological Organisation, improves global aviation weather services.
It started on November 22 and saw attendees from the Mainland, Bangladesh, Brunei, Iran, Laos, Lithuania, Myanmar, Uruguay, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe. Upon their return to their home countries, the participants will contribute to the development of their own aviation weather services, enhancing flight safety and efficiency.
Vanuatu participant Williams Bae Worwor said the observatory's achievements in the provision of aviation meteorological services has won unanimous acclaim from the organisation and the international meteorological community.
"I am very impressed by the application of advanced technology and the provision of quality services. This is an excellent opportunity for me to learn the latest developments in aviation weather services," he said.
In 2002, the observatory became one of the first aviation weather services in the world to be awarded ISO 9001 certification. It has installed at the airport the world's first Light Detection & Ranging system for detecting windshear in fine weather.
