59 pollution convictions in June

Environmental Protection Department

The Environmental Protection Department recorded 59 convictions in June for breaches of anti-pollution laws.

 

The heaviest fine in June was $40,000, handed down to a company that used powered mechanical equipment without a valid construction noise permit.

 

Twenty-nine of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 15 under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, 13 under the Noise Control Ordinance and two under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.
