Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2

To improve the harbour and make the marine environment healthier, the Environment, Transport & Works Bureau has proposed to implement the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2 in two phases.

The first stage will see the extension of the deep tunnel network, expansion of the existing chemical treatment capacity and provision of disinfection.

The sewage treatment facility upgrade is slated for completion by 2012, while the more challenging tunnelling works are expected to be in place by 2013-14.

The second stage covers the building of biological treatment facilities at a site near Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works. The facilities will be built underground to allow for other uses or co-development above.

Details of the proposal are available at www.cleanharbour.gov.hk. Comments should reach the bureau by October 20, by mailing 10th floor, Citibank Tower, 3 Garden Road, Central; emailing hats@etwb.gov.hk; or, faxing 2838 2155.
