Water quality 'good' at 20 beaches
*
Shek O

The place to go: Shek O Beach, always a bather's favourite, once again has good water quality forecast for this weekend.

*

Water quality at 20 beaches has been rated 'good' for this weekend by the Environmental Protection Department, with nine 'fair' and four 'poor'. Click here for details.

Compared with last week's gradings, Chung Hom Kok Beach has been upgraded to 'good' while Middle Bay and Silver Mine Bay Beaches have changed to 'fair' and Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach to 'poor'.

Under the grading system, beaches are classified into four grades according to the level of e.coli in the water.

Seven gazetted beaches - Anglers', Approach, Ting Kau, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan and Lido - are closed to swimmers year round because of poor water quality.

People are advised not to swim at these closed beaches.

As many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggested during and after heavy rain, bathers should avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rain.

For the latest beach water quality gradings, click here or call or the beach hotline 2511 6666.
