Less rain seen in April
*
HK Observatory

April was slightly drier than usual, with a monthly rainfall of 147.2 millimetres, about 9% less than normal.

The HK Observatory said accumulated rainfall since the start of the year was 354.3 millimetres, about 18% above the normal figure of 299.8 millimetres.

Troughs of low pressure brought thunderstorms and rain on April 1, 14, 17 and 27. Rain was heaviest on April 14 on Hong Kong Island where more than 100 millimetres was generally recorded.

The weather was hot on April 22 and 23 under the influence of a warm maritime airstream and with long periods of bright sunshine.  The maximum temperature on April 22 was 30.7 degrees Celsius, the highest so far this year.

One tropical cyclone developed in the western North Pacific during the month.
