*
Environmental Protection Department

Forty pollution convictions were meted out last month, the Environmental Protection Department says.

Among the convictions, 19 were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, nine under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, eight under the Noise Control Ordinance, three under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance and one under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance.

The heaviest fine was $100,000, levied against a company that used powered mechanical equipment in breach of the conditions of a construction noise permit.
