Weather courses to start for laymen

*
HK Observatory

Here's your chance to improve your knowledge of the weather.

The HK Observatory will organise a training course on interpreting weather charts and weather forecasting next month.

It will be held on the mornings of November 15, 22 and 29. Course and enrolment details are available on the department's website.

Know the weather better

As the weather is highly changeable and affects all people, knowing the fundamentals of weather forecasting can help you better plan your outings and daytrips.

The observatory has in recent years made available on its webpage real-time weather information such as weather charts, radar and satellite imagery.

It now wants to help laymen better understand its daily forecasts.

Make your own forecasts

Senior Scientific Officer Chan Chik-cheung said weather information on the observatory's website enables people to make their own weather-related decisions.

"For example, they can decide whether to proceed with or suspend weather-sensitive activities based on the intensity, distribution and forecasting of rain appearing on weather charts and radar pictures," he said.

The course is also suitable for teachers who want to increase their understanding of weather systems that will affect Hong Kong.
