Beat Drugs Fund scheme wins award
*

A Beat Drugs Fund-sponsored project has landed the top prize in the 2002 Eco-business Awards.

The Fund's Green Haven Scheme won the Gold Award in the Green Innovative Practice category.

The prizes are awarded to projects that provide business value and environmental benefits in the process of developing eco-innovative business solutions.

The Beat Drugs Fund granted over $100,000 to the Correctional Services Department in April 2001 to conduct the Green Haven Scheme for two years.

The project disseminated anti-drug messages and environmental protection ideas to secondary school students through visits to Hei Ling Chau Drug Addiction Treatment Centre.

Participants visited green facilities on the island and met young inmates who explained the dangers of drug abuse.

By the end of last year, 92 visits had been arranged for about 2,500 students.

The Environmental Campaign Committee, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Productivity Council jointly organise the Awards.
