Edward Chen reappointed economic group chief
*

Lingnan University President Professor Edward Chen has been reappointed Chairman of the HK Committee for Pacific Economic Co-operation for two years from April 1.

Seven academics, six businessmen and three Government members have also been appointed to the committee.

The Government said it is pleased Professor Chen has taken up the chairmanship again, despite his heavy commitments, and is confident that, under his capable leadership, the committee will continue to contribute constructively to regional economic co-operation.

Established in March 1990, it comprises business leaders, academics and Government officials who advise the administration on matters related to Hong Kong's participation in the Pacific Economic Co-operation Council, of which Hong Kong became a member in 1991.

Tripartite in nature, the council serves as an independent forum for discussing trade and economic issues, and fostering closer economic co-operation in the Pacific region.
