Cyber celebration: BEA Systems Asia Pacific General Manager Garrett Ilg and InvestHK's John Rutherford celebrate the company's expansion in Hong Kong.

US application infrastructure software company, BEA Systems, has expanded its Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Hong Kong.

The company will add another 20 staff to its Hong Kong operations, with some recruited locally.

InvestHK Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion John Rutherford said: "BEA Systems' expansion of its RHQ in Hong Kong underlines the growing market potential for IT solution service providers in the Asia-Pacific region."

BEA will bring additional solutions expertise to an expanding potential customer base, he said.

"Hong Kong is an ideal location for this type of business. It offers a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, a dedicated and well-trained workforce, a transparent and business-friendly regulatory environment, as well as free flow of capital and information," Mr Rutherford said.

A base in Hong Kong has long been seen as an excellent way to access the burgeoning Mainland market.

Senior Vice President and General Manager of BEA Systems Asia Pacific Garrett Ilg said their expansion demonstrates their strong commitment and confidence in Hong Kong as an operations base.

Based in San Jose, California, BEA relocated its RHQ from Australia to Hong Kong in 2001.

The company has 77 offices in 31 countries, serving more than 15,000 corporate customers around the world.
