Probe into closed travel company underway
*
Tourism Commission

The Tourism Commission is investigating the closure of Guangdong (HK) Tours, with the Travel Agents Registry liaising with the provision liquidator to get more details on the case.

The Travel Industry Council is working to help affected travellers. Arrangements have been made for a group of 25 to start their Thailand trip tomorrow as scheduled.

For other affected travellers, they have two options:

* The council will assist outbound travellers to continue their trips with other travel agents; or,

* With their franked receipt, they can obtain an ex-gratia payment of up to 90% of their outbound fare from the Travel Industry Compensation Fund.

The council will continue to monitor the operation of travel agents closely.

Outbound travellers' confidence should not be affected as their interests are well-protected under the Travel Industry Compensation Fund.
