Sweet relief: Financial Secretary Antony Leung says economic relief measures will come soon. |
|
Financial Secretary Antony Leung said the Government is considering creating short-term positions to help relieve the economic strain brought on by the atypical pneumonia outbreak.
Speaking after chairing the Task Force on Employment, Mr Leung said it is possible the positions may include those in the environment and hygiene fields.
"We are considering quite a number of options and we are also taking into account the possible financial impact. Right now we have not decided on the final package, but we hope we can announce the measures soon. When the measures are announced, then we will tell you what the financial implications should be," Mr Leung said.
Meanwhile, the Labour Department reminded employers that they should provide suitable personal protective equipment and training on occupational safety and health for workers who carry out cleansing and disinfection work.
Under the Occupational Safety & Health Ordinance, an employer must, as far as reasonably practicable, ensure the safety and health at work of all employees.
