Foreign helpers' minimum pay to rise
*
Labour Department

The minimum wage for foreign domestic helpers will rise $100 - from $3,480 to $3,580 per month from July 10, the Labour Department says.

The new minimum wage is applicable to employment contracts signed on or after July 10.

Employment contracts signed on or before July 9 at a wage level not lower than the prevailing minimum wage of $3,480 will still be processed by the Immigration Department, provided that the applications reach it by August 6.

This is to allow time for employers whose contracts are signed on or before July 9 to complete the necessary procedure before submitting their applications.

Any employer who pays less than the wage as stated in the employment contract is liable to a maximum fine of $350,000 and three year's jail.
