School leavers and summer job seekers should be cautious of job traps and beware of dubious advertisements, especially highly-paid positions requiring little skill or academic qualifications, the Labour Department warns.
They should decline jobs that may involve unlawful or immoral behaviour and be vigilant to any demands to pay fees or cash for training, investment or buying goods.
Swindlers might also obtain from them personal data, like information on bank accounts and credit cards, for unlawful purposes.
Untrained job seekers should pay particular attention to occupational safety and health to avoid work injuries, and not take up potentially hazardous jobs like operating dangerous machinery, handling chemicals or working on construction sites.
Job seekers should learn more about labour laws to avoid being owed wages by employers and unnecessary labour disputes. They must understand and accept all the terms before signing a job contract.
