Wage-record keeping revision takes effect

*
Labour Department

The provision under the Employment (Amendment) Ordinance 2007 relating to employers' keeping of employees' wage and employment records will take effect on January 13, the Labour Department says.

Employers must keep wage and employment records of their employees for 12 months, instead of the current six months.

The extension is to tie in with the revision to the mode of calculating the relevant statutory entitlements under the amendment ordinance, which took effect from July 13 last year.

Employers must keep the wage and employment records of every employee. An employer who fails to do so is liable to prosecution and a $10,000 fine.

More details about the new requirements and the amendment ordinance can be found here. Questions? Call 2717 1771.
