Employer fined for evading holiday pay
*
Labour Department

An employer has been fined $12,000 at Fanling Magistracy today for holiday-pay offences.

Caterer Law Chui-shan failed to grant pay to an employee for holidays during the Lunar New Year and Ching Ming Festival.

The Employment Ordinance says that an employee who has worked under a continuous contract for no less than three months immediately preceding a statutory holiday is entitled to holiday pay. It should be paid no later than their next paid wages after the holiday. Employers who fail to do so face a $50,000 fine.
