31 illegal workers arrested
*

Nineteen suspected illegal workers and 12 employers have been arrested in a series of joint operations conducted by Police, and the Labour and Immigration Departments.

Officers raided 40 locations in Chai Wan, North Point, Wan Chai, Western District, Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po, Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung.

Seven of the illegal workers worked as sales assistants in retail shops, five as waiters or cleaners in restaurants, two as general workers in a laundry and the remainder as a foot masseur, hair washer, interior renovation worker, waste recycling worker and care worker.

Two suspected illegal workers could not produce their identity document and two were overstaying Mainland visitors. The rest were two-way permit holders. Most of the suspected illegal workers came from Guangdong.
