Maids to get a wage boost
*
Labour Department

The minimum wage for foreign domestic helpers will rise $80 to $3,480 per month from June 6, the Labour Department says.

The new minimum wage will apply to employment contracts signed on or after June 6.

Employment contracts signed on or before June 5 at a wage level not lower than the prevailing minimum wage of $3,400 will still be processed by the Immigration Department, provided that the applications reach it by July 3. This is to allow time for employers whose contracts are signed on or before June 5 to complete the necessary procedure before submitting their applications.

Any employer who pays less than the wage as stated in the existing employment contract is liable to a maximum fine of $350,000 and three years' jail.
